DIXFIELD — An 82-year-old Dixfield man escaped serious injury Wednesday afternoon when he lost control of his vehicle on Route 2.

Officer Dustin Broughton said Alton Wing was driving west near the foot of Morrison Hill when his 2006 Buick sedan drifted into the eastbound lane. Broughton believes Wing overcorrected, then lost control. The vehicle came to rest atop a snowbank.

Wing was taken to Rumford Hospital by Med-Care Ambulance Service where he was being evaluated late Wednesday afternoon, according to an emergency room spokeswoman.

The sedan sustained about $2,600 damage to the front end, hood, windows and rear bumper.

Several members of the Dixfield Fire Department assisted Med-Care staff at the scene.
