OXFORD — The Nateva Festival announced its jam band-heavy 2011 lineup Monday morning, including two acts with former members of the Grateful Dead.

The band 7 Walkers features Grateful Dead co-founder and drummer Bill Kreutzmann and New Orleans guitarist Papa Mali. The band describes its sound as a “hybrid of classic Bay Area rock and New Orleans funk” on its website.

“Grateful” guitarist Bob Weir, who performed with the band Furthur at the 2010 festival, will play an acoustic set.

Nateva spokesman and Grateful Dead fan Jim Britt said the Weir act and 7 Walkers are an alternative to having Furthur headlining this year, mostly because Furthur has been touring heavily in New England and their ubiquity could make them less of a draw. “This is a business that needs to sell tickets.”

Furthur played the Orpheum Theater in Boston on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and will perform again on Tuesday in Connecticut.

Britt called Weir’s solo acoustic act “a really special performance.”

“Before I saw the Dead, I saw Bob Weir acoustic live in 1983. He was just unbelievable,” Britt said Monday.

Britt said 7 Walkers plays Grateful Dead songs, as well. “The Grateful Dead is going to have a strong presence at this festival.”

In all, Nateva announced 42 acts, including The Gregg Allman Band, Thievery Corporation, the John Butler Trio, Guster, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Keller Williams, Strangefolk and more. Several acts such as STS9, the Ryan Montbleau Band and the McLovins will return.

“At this time last year, we’d only announced a handful of bands,” Britt said. He said this year, founder Frank Chandler wanted to release the bulk of the lineup at once.

On the festival’s Facebook page, reaction was mixed. Some were excited at the range of acts and the classic rock musicians such as Weir, Allman and former J. Geils Band singer Peter Wolf. Some criticized the lineup as too heavy on jam band music. Jam band fans pointed out favorite bands missing from the lineup.

“There’s a lot of unknown bands on there that are just going to really shock people with their live performances,” Britt said.

Britt said more bands will be announced as they agree to perform. He said there may be more headliner-level bands coming.

The festival is set for Aug. 4 to 7 at the Oxford Fairgrounds on Pottle Road.

Ticket prices rose again Monday. Four-day passes are now $219, and three-day passes are $189. Layaway plans are available that allow concertgoers to pay in three installments.

This year, the festival will include yoga classes, late-night, big-screen movies, a late-night silent disco and a farmers market.
