SANIBEL, Fla. — Patricia Brennan Kfoury, 71, of Oquossoc and Sanibel Fla., died unexpectedly Sunday, Feb. 27, due to complications from surgery. She passed quickly and peacefully.
She was born in Lawrence, Mass., Jan. 20, 1940, to Dorothy and Stephen Brennan II. Patti was an excellent student with a love of ancient history and had a strong knowledge of Latin and other languages. She loved the New York Times crossword puzzle. She also had a strong moral background and believed that people were here to make a difference in the world. She was schooled at Abbot Academy, now Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass., and graduated from Wheelock College, in Boston, Mass. She went on to become an outstanding educator, teaching and working with inner city youth; positively impacting their lives.
In 1955, she met the love of her life, Edward Kfoury. They married on Aug. 5, 1961, and remained so until her death. After teaching, Patti went on to become a mother and housewife and supported her husband’s 30-year career with IBM, which allowed her to travel the world and live in Tokyo, Japan. During the summers, Patti ran several businesses with her children in Oquossoc. She lovingly restored the old Mooselookmeguntic House log cabins, campground and marina and made it a thriving business. Later, she helped restore the Gingerbread House Restaurant, designed the Stony Batter Station and created an antique and art gallery.
Due to her love and appreciation of nature and wildlife, she helped start the Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving natural areas, scenic beauty, critical wildlife habitat, the cultural heritage of the Rangeley Lakes Region of Maine and created an outdoor camp for children called Ecoventure. Patti had exquisite taste and remodeled more than 20 homes, leaving each better than how she found them. She had a deep love of nature, wildlife, recreational sports, and bee keeping. She was an avid sailor and adored being a grandmother. Patti was outgoing and warm, had an infectious smile and made everyone around her happy. She was smart and direct and the glue of her family and was a great friend and advisor to many.
Patti is survived by her husband, Edward; her two sons, Mark and Christopher; her daughter, Kate and son-in-law, Brian Williamson; her brother, Steve Brennan and his wife, Biffy; her sister, Susan Brennan; her three grandsons, Matthew and Tade Kfoury and Brian Williamson; and her granddaughters, Melissa and Ashley Williamson.
The mystery and wonder of love is greater than the mystery of death; may she live forever in our hearts.
