100 years ago,1911

That Lewiston is soon to have an automobile truck for use in the fire department was brought out at the meeting of the Lewiston City Government last evening, when it was stated by Mayor Morey that that piece of apparatus would probably be included in the expenses of the coming year. This move is in keeping with the progressive policy adopted by the Fire Commissioners and is in keeping with the actions of the other cities of New England of corresponding size.

50 years ago, 1961

The Community Little Theater Association will have as guest speaker at its monthly meeting Harry W. Rowe, former dean of the faculty at Bates College.

In a talk titled “The Curtain Rose at 8:30,” Mr. Rowe will speak about the theater through the years in Lewiston-Auburn. He acted as college historian at Bates and served as dean of men from 1914 to 1958. His outside interests include membership in the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club and the  Androscoggin County Historical Society, of which he is president.

25 years ago, 1986

The race committee for Maine’s edition of “America’s Race — Super Run II” to be held in Lewiston on April 20 was announced Monday by race director Byron Davis.

Scott Worthing, area manager of Snorada Ski Touring Center in Auburn, has been named chief of course. Other committee members include Bill Lelansky, chief controller; Norm Keneborus in charge of the start and the finish as well as registration; and Steve Sherlock, chief timer.
