Leavitt art

TURNER — Leavitt Area High School is celebrating their 11th annual Leavitt Arts Gala this week, through Friday, March 18. Throughout the week, several guest artists will expose students to a wide variety of art forms such as mime, ice carving, stone wall building, theater, folk songs, painting, fabric arts and stained glass.

The culmination of the week’s celebration will occur at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 17, when the school will hold an open house for the public featuring hallway exhibits of hundreds of pieces of student visual art, music performances, a production of the one-act play “The Lottery,” and a coffee house.

Chowder lunch

FARMINGTON — The Fairbanks Union Church will hold a fish chowder luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, March 18. The menu will include chowder, biscuit, pickles, cheese, dessert and coffee/tea beverage. For local delivery (within five miles of the church), call the church at 778-4705. The donation for the lunch is $6.

Benefit dance

FARMINGTON — There will be a benefit dance for the family of Shirley Dubay from 8 p.m. to midnight Friday, March 18, at the Farmington Elks Lodge. The evening will feature the band Fair Enough, which is based out of the Rumford area with Mark Steele, Tony Umbro, Mike Arsenault, Randy DeRoche and Michelle Johnson.

Shirley was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in December and died Jan. 27. The benefit was in the planning stages before she died.

There will also be 50/50, Chinese auction and raffle of a half cord of split and dried wood.

Tickets, $10 a person, must be purchased in advance. They can be purchased at Madore’s Market and Ron’s Market in Farmington. For more information, contact Pat Hardy at 778-2264 or Dawn Pratt at 491-7631.

Masonic Supper

WILTON — A public Masonic supper will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at the Harland M. Harnden Masonic Building, 80 Bryant Road, East Wilton. The menu will consist of corned beef and cabbage, boiled potatoes, carrots, onions, beets, dinner rolls, homemade desserts and beverages. Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children under 12

Corned beef

INDUSTRY — A corned beef dinner will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, at Industry town hall. Menu includes potatoes, carrots, cabbage, baked beans, bread, desserts and beverages. Adults, $7; children under 10, $3. To benefit the United in Christ Presbyterian Church and Starks Progressive Club.

Pinewood Derby

JAY — The Pinewood Derby will take place Sunday, March 20, at St. Rose of Lima Parish Hall. The time is to be determined.

Scouts will race their cars to determine who goes on to the K-Valley District Pinewood Derby to be held Saturday, April 2, at Carrabec High School.
