AUBURN — A local man will serve two years in prison on a drug charge stemming from a raid on his Omer Street home where he was cooking methamphetamine.

James Ludlow, 36, pleaded guilty in Androscoggin County Superior Court in January to one count of unlawful trafficking in illegal drugs. On Tuesday, he was sentenced to six years in prison with all but two years suspended. He also was sentenced to three years of probation and ordered to pay a $1,000 fine. 

As part of the plea deal, prosecutors had agreed that Ludlow would have to serve no more than three years. His lawyer was expected to seek a shorter sentence. The Class B crime is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Police converged on Ludlow’s Lewiston apartment roughly a year ago clad in chemical-resistant suits and breathing through respirators. They found pseudoephedrine tablets, coffee filters that contained suspected methamphetamine residue, solvents and plastic bags containing small quantities of the suspected drug in his apartment.

Ludlow’s girlfriend, Pamela Connor, 27, of Lewiston, also was charged in the raid. She pleaded guilty last year to attempted trafficking. Her case was to be shelved for two years during which she was required to not run afoul of the law and to abide by strict conditions that included 60 hours of public service, substance-abuse counseling and random searches. She was ordered to stay away from Ludlow.
