MINOT — The Minot Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12, at the town office to hear Sara Willett speak on Maine Native American basketmakers and the Poland Spring Inn.

Willett is a recent graduate of the University of Maine at Orono, where she received an MA in history. A resident of Poland, she will present a talk on the basketmakers’ seasonal trips to the Poland Spring Inn during the turn of the century.

During the late 19th and early 20th century, the basketmakers traveled extensively throughout the New England region, selling baskets and other wares. In her talk, Willett will highlight the reasons the Poland Spring Inn stood out as a unique venue for the basketmakers during that era.

Everyone is welcome and refreshments will be served following the meeting. For more information, call President Whitney King-Buker at 966-2622.

At a previous meeting, Donald Verrill was the speaker. His talk was on the years that he tested for space exploration, satellite communication and his last 10 years as manager of COMSAT Satellite Station in Andover.
