WILTON — Members of the local band The Beaners are heading to Massachusetts this weekend to perform in a Japan Disaster Relief Concert, band member Andrew Yeaton said.

The members Don Beane, Austin Beane, Wayne Young and Yeaton, all of Wilton, have been playing together for a couple of years as a garage band and doing some benefits.

They started playing every Thursday night as a get-together to have fun, Yeaton, who grew up in Farmington, said. The band plays originals and classic rock, he said.

The band’s bass player and lead vocal, Don Beane, was contacted and asked if the band wanted to perform with professional musicians in the Boston area, Yeaton said.

“We can’t wait,” he said. “I want to go now. We’re all excited to bring our talent to benefit Japan.”

There will be 15 bands playing at the concert that begins at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 17, at the Ipswich Town Hall, at 25 Green St. in Ipswich. All proceeds will go to the relief fund, he said.

Other bands playing include Robin Lane, Willie “Loco” Alexander, Gary Shane & the Detour, Adam Sherman & the Souls, and Rusted Compass.
