The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society is urging puppy owners to vaccinate for parvovirus. It is also seeking donations to help with the treatment of four puppies diagnosed with parvo, a common and potentially serious viral disease in dogs. Thanks to the kindness of the Auburn Animal Center, Norway Veterinary Hospital and Portland Veterinary Specialists, the pups were treated with intensive care with intravenous fluids, antibiotics, and medications. “Emergency situations such as these are a drain on our budget,” said Steven Dostie, executive director. “The average treatment for parvo can easily exceed $2,500 per a dog.” The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society is located at 55 Strawberry Ave. in Lewiston. To donate, volunteer or adopt an animal, call 783-2311 or visit the website at www.gahumane.org. You can also join them on www.facebook/GAHumane.
