LEWISTON — The Lewiston Regional Technical Center will add travel, tourism and hospitality training to the programs already offered to students from Edward Little, Leavitt, Lewiston, Lisbon, Oak Hill and Poland Regional high schools.

Rob Callahan, LRTC’s director, said the school’s ability to respond to community and student needs drove the decision to add this program.

The travel, tourism and hospitality program at LRTC will introduce students to the daily operation of hotels, resorts, restaurants and other hospitality establishments. Upon completion of the program, students will be well versed in the fields of business, culinary, food service and related technical skills, giving them an advantage for college or entering directly into the workforce.

This announcement comes on the heels of LRTC’s decision to also add a business management program for the 2011-12 school year. Typical of all LRTC programs, the curriculum will include hands-on learning and interaction with professionals. There will be visits to area establishments and networking opportunities with business leaders, as well as the opportunity to participate in state and national competitions.
