BUCKFIELD — A man found dead in his home Wednesday night was killed by a gunshot wound to the head, according to the state Medical Examiner’s Office.
The office hasn’t released whether the death of Gregg Belanger, 51, of 140 Darnit Road was a suicide or if he was shot by another person.
Belanger was found dead in his house Wednesday at about 8:30 p.m. by his ex-wife, Denise Belanger, 48. The couple divorced in March 2010, after 20 years of marriage, and shared custody of their daughter. According to police and Belanger’s neighbor, the Belangers were back together.
Last Thursday, Belanger’s death was ruled suspicious by Maine State Police, who investigated the home, taking pictures and measurements of the scene. The Medical Examiner’s Office completed an autopsy, but the case is still under investigation.
Belanger, a welder at Bath Iron Works, moved into the ranch-style home last year after his house at 298 Johnson Hill Road in Poland burned down. The house was insured.
A co-worker of Belanger’s, who asked not to be named, said Belanger was a hardworking welder who got along well with others at the shipyard.
