LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center and the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention have partnered to offer free screenings for oral, head and neck cancer. The screenings will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Friday, April 29, at the Trinity Jubilee Center, 247 Bates St. No appointment or preregistration is necessary.

Oral, head and neck cancer arises in the nasal cavity, sinuses, lips, mouth, thyroid glands, salivary glands, throat or voice box. According to the Head and Neck Cancer Alliance, around 40,000 people are diagnosed with oral, head and neck cancer every year in the United States, where it is the sixth most common cancer.

The Trinity Jubilee Center is located within Trinity Episcopal Church on the corner of Bates and Spruce streets. Entrance to the center is off Spruce Street.
