AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library has announced the following events for children during the month of May. Library hours are Monday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The library will be closed on Monday, May 30, in observance of Memorial Day. Sweet Peas, Mondays, May 2, 9, 16 and 23 from 10:30-11 a.m. in the Children’s Room: Joanne Dupuis will lead a lap-sit program for children ages 24-36 months and a parent. Stories, songs, rhythm instruments, fingerplays and flannel board fun on the story quilt. This program is designed for families; agencies and child care groups may contact the library to schedule group visits at another time.

Preschool storytime, Wednesdays, May 4, 11, 18 and 25 at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. in the Children’s Room: Each Wednesday morning we offer our story program twice. Families gather in the Children’s Room and the children ages 3-5 (and experienced listeners who are almost three) move to the program room while their grownups and siblings remain behind to chat, choose books and make friends. Wednesday morning story programs are designed for children who are comfortable being in a group without their parent. This program is for families; agencies and childcare groups may contact the library to schedule group visits at another time.

Sprouts, Saturdays, May 7, 14, 21 and 28 from 10:30-10:50 a.m. in the Children’s Room: Babies from birth through 24 months and their parents gather with Heather on the story quilt for a rollicking good time with nursery rhymes, songs, board books, finger plays and each other. Siblings are welcome.

Author visit with Nancy Prince, Thursday, May 19, from 6-7 p.m. in the Maggie Trafton Program Room: Maine author Nancy Prince will read her new children’s book “Libby’s Loons.” The book is geared for children ages 5-10. Copies of “Libby’s Loons” will also be available for purchase and signing.

Saturday Stories, Saturday, May 21, 9:30 a.m. in the Children’s Room: Local volunteer story lady Judy D’Amour will lead children in interactive stories, rhymes, songs, creative dramatics and a craft. This program is best for children from two to six years.
