FRYEBURG — Asbury Shorts, New York City’s longest running short film exhibition, will present “The Short Film Concert” at the Leura Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center on Saturday, May 7.

Asbury Shorts NY, making its third appearance in Fryeburg, screens new and classic short films at theatrical venues across the country. Organizers will present a program of past favorites combined with new international honorees selected from the world’s top film festivals.

Highlights include “Our Time is Up,” the 2007 Oscar Nominee for Best Live Action Short Film, from Los Angeles director Rob Pearlstein. In the film, therapist Dr. Stern, played by Kevin Pollack, discovers he has six weeks to live and adopts a fresh method of treatment — being brutally honest.

Also in the lineup is “The Wednesdays,” from director Conor Ferguson of Ireland. This short film won the International Audience Award at what is considered the world’s top short film festival, Claremont-Ferrand in France. “The Wednesdays” is the whimsical tale of a traditional elderly couple discovering a modern way to revive some heated weekly passion.

Also featured among the dozen shorts will be “Backwards,” from NYC animator Aaron Hughes, a four-minute love story told entirely in reverse, including the dialogue.

Special guest host will be Bob Keyes, who writes about the arts in Maine for the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram. He will introduce the films in blocks of three over the course of the two-hour show.

“The Short Film Concert,” recommended for ages 16 and above, will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the theater, 745 Main St. on the Fryeburg Academy campus. Tickets are $10, general admission; $7 for students. Call 935-9232 or email boxoffice@fryeburgacademy.org.
