PARIS — Maine Veterans’ Home in South Paris will celebrate National Nursing Home Week, during the week of May 8-14.

National Nursing Home Week, sponsored by the American Health Care Association, is an annual salute to the many nursing and rehabilitation facilities across the country. There will be special activities throughout the week for both residents and staff to enjoy.

This year’s theme, “Fulfilling the Promise,” was selected to honor those who serve others, thus adding value to life and helping to overcome many of the infirmities of age and disability. NNHW spotlights nursing home residents and staff and encourages all to celebrate those that make a positive contribution every day.

Some of the plans for the week-long celebration include a Mother’s Day tea, an ice cream sundae party, musical events, and breakfast and lunch buffets. New this year will be an invitation to “alumni” of the rehabilitation program, inviting discharged residents into the facility for an afternoon of entertainment and an opportunity to share their experiences at the facility. Staff will also be invited to a cook-out. Throughout the week there will be daily drawings for prizes and staff, residents and visitors will be able to order and purchase merchandise with the MVH logo.
