FARMINGTON  —  Farmington Fire and Rescue responded to Tri-County Mental Health Services on High Street at about 2 p.m.Thursday when people there reported smelling something burning.

The cause is the elevator’s hydraulic system, fire Chief Terry Bell said.

The elevator is closed until a repair service can check it Friday, he said.

A smoke ejector was used to clear the area of the smell although there was little smoke, he said. People in the building, the former Arthur D. Ingalls School, were evacuated while firefighters checked the building.

Traffic was blocked on High Street from Broadway to Middle Street.
