LEWISTON— Lewiston-Auburn Senior College will hold its annual membership meeting May 10 at 2 p.m. in the Function Room at L-A College.

Chairman Hugh Keene will present a scholarship award to a graduating senior, followed by committee reports and introduction of new board members.

A special program will be presented by James Strickland whose two sculpture pieces are displayed at the campus. Strickland is a native of Oklahoma, studied for the ministry in California, and earned his doctorate in theology.

In the early 1970s he returned to school to study architecture, apprenticing under Paolo Soleri, Charles Eames and Hiroshi Hasanawa.

Strickland now lives in Belfast, while painting and building sculptures for municipal, corporate and private commissions. His sculpture, “Waypoint,” at L-A College symbolizes the entrance into the school and the richness that is brought to life by study and education.

Senior College is celebrating its 12th year offering courses to those over 50 years of age. Planning for the 2011 fall semester is under way and course announcements will be provided in August.
