BANGOR, Maine — Gov. Paul LePage will deliver the commencement address at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at his alma mater, Husson University.

LePage, a 1971 graduate of what was then Husson College, also will receive an honorary doctorate for public service, according to a Husson press release. In addition to the governor, Diana Beaudoin, an educator and longtime member of the Husson board of trustees, will receive an honorary doctorate in education.

Husson will hold a second commencement at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21, at the Woodfords Corner Congregational Church in Portland. Rep. Marc Dion, D-Portland and former Cumberland County sheriff, will be the commencement speaker.

The university will award a total of 685 degrees at the two ceremonies, according to the press release. At the Bangor ceremony the university will present 583 degrees to more than 500 students. There will be two valedictorians and one salutatorian.

The valedictorians are Melanie R. Moore of Brewer and Kelsey H. Smith of Van Buren. Both will graduate with perfect grade point averages of 4.0, according to Julie Green, spokeswoman for Husson. Moore will receive a bachelor of science degree in psychology. Smith will receive a bachelor of science degree in secondary education – life sciences.

The salutatorian will be Kassie J. Lovely of Easton, who has earned a 3.978 grade point average. She will receive a bachelor of science degree in psychology.

Senior Class President Michelle Osgood of Easton will deliver the class address. Osgood will receive a bachelor of science degree in biology and a second degree in chemistry.

Students from 209 Maine towns,19 states and nine nations will earn associate, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees from Husson’s colleges of business, education and health, and the school of science and humanities.
