BETHEL — Two Telstar High School students, Karen White and Josef Holt, received special acknowledgement for community and academic success at the high school’s Student of the Month Assembly at the school Friday.

Each month the school honors one underclassman and one upperclassman, based on their classroom performance, school service and citizenship.

The Upperclassman Student of the Month judges selected junior Karen White, saying, she “challenges herself in several honors and Advanced Placement courses. She’s a musically talented young lady, both instrumentally on her trombone and vocally in chorus.” She has participated in the District Two Instrumental Music Festival and has also performed in various Telstar drama productions. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Freshman Awareness Committee. In addition, White spends a lot of her spare time volunteering with MS MKA.

The Underclassman Student of the Month judges selected Holt for being an “extremely hard worker with a commitment to excellence. He makes a point of getting help when he has questions. He is respectful to teachers and students, and often helps fellow students in class.”

They described him as a “star athlete on the cross-country and track teams. He is a fun, articulate and very bright student. He always puts his best effort into all that he does, whether in the classroom or in sports.”
