FARMINGTON — An hour of improv comedy is fun. Thirteen hours of improv comedy is something else altogether.

On Friday, May 20, the Mt. Blue Curtain Raisers will present the annual Improvathon, a 13-hour stretch of workshops and performances, culminating with a show in the Mt. Blue High School auditorium.

Throughout the day, the Curtain Raisers will teach Mt. Blue High School students the fundamentals of improvisation. Director Dan Ryder will work with teachers to show how improv can be used as a learning tool, no matter what the subject. In Improvathons past, students have learned about everything from plate tectonics to good parenting.

After the workshops, the Curtain Raisers will continue performing in the auditorium throughout the afternoon.

At 7:30 p.m. the group will present the 13th hour of improv, built from audience suggestions, for the general public.

The Improvathon will help raise funds for a trip to Cambridge, Mass.,  where the Curtain Raisers will perform at a professional theater, ImprovBoston.

Admission to the evening performance is $3, with doors opening at 7 p.m. For more information, email dryder@mtbluersd.org or call 778-3561.
