RUMFORD — A special selectmen’s meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 12, for a charter hearing to consider an amendment.

The proposal, if approved to be placed on the June town meeting warrant, would give selectmen the authority to amend the Rumford Charter on a semiannual basis in June and November.

Currently, they can only amend it once a year.

At 7 p.m. the board will vote to approve remaining sections of its proposed wind ordinance and possibly previously approved sections that may be revisited.

The board is then expected to vote to place the ordinance on the June town meeting warrant and establish the date for a public hearing on the document.

The ordinance can be found in its various stages on the town’s website at www.rumfordmaine.net/.

There are links to the initial ordinance that a majority defeated on Nov. 2, Selectman Jeff Sterling’s less restrictive revision of that document, and the current draft being finished on Thursday night.

Selectmen will also vote to adopt the annual budget for 2011-12, approve the proposed charter change and the annual town warrant, and sign filing certificates for the proposed ordinance and charter changes.

The two meetings will be held in Rumford Falls Auditorium.
