The fifth annual AmeriCorps Week will take place May 14-21.
Between 1994 and 2010, more than 4,200 Maine residents have served more than 6 million hours and qualified for Segal AmeriCorps Education Awards totaling more than $12,400,000.
Examples of the impact AmeriCorps members had on Maine communities in 2010 include: Recovery Community Resource Corps AmeriCorps members taught 2,004 people financial literacy skills; 125 homes were winterized by Hour Exchange AmeriCorps*VISTA’S resulting in energy savings; 34 Maine Conservation Corps AmeriCorps members provided 700 lesson hours on Environmental Education to 4,000 students.

AmeriCorps Week Outreach at the Farmington Farmer’s Market. MCC Environmental Educator Ben Godsoe will have a table at the Farmington farmer’s market. Join MCC Environmental Educator David Hammes at Bradbury Mountain State Park to help with trail maintenance and learn about the Maine Conservation Corps, AmeriCorps and national service. AmeriCorps provides opportunities for more than 80,000 Americans to give back in an intensive way to their communities and country each year. It consists of three main programs: AmeriCorps State and National, whose members serve with more than 1,840 national and local nonprofit and community groups; AmeriCorps VISTA, through which members serve full time fighting poverty; and AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps), a team-based residential program for young adults 18-24 who carry out projects in public safety, the environment, youth development, and disaster relief and preparedness.
