NORWAY — After months of work, the community resource manual that was the initial goal of a new Oxford Hills coalition is nearly finished.

At Thursday’s meeting of the Resource Coalition, Paula Paladino of Rumford Group Homes presented the manual, nearly 70 pages long, which functions as a yellow pages of services available in Oxford County.

The manual was the work of University of Maine at Augusta student and Rumford Group Homes intern Ed Provencher. It lists community resources at a glance divided by the services they provide, such as education and substance abuse. Resources are also listed in alphabetical order.

The goal is to pass it to churches, town offices and other groups that provide aid in order to steer people in the right direction.

Paladino said the manual is a work in progress, and that the table of contents doesn’t include page numbers because she expects them to change constantly.

For example, the new Oxford Helping Hands Food Pantry isn’t in the current version of the manual. She said she expects some groups may be offended, but they’ll have an opportunity to be named in later revisions.

On Thursday, she passed the manual on to the Resource Coalition, which will be responsible for future updates. “It’s a passing the torch to all of you,” she said.

The coalition also formed two committees Thursday. One will deal with the resource guide and how to update and distribute it. The other group will make recommendations on how the group can be organized.

The coalition will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 9, at the Christ Episcopal Church.
