AUGUSTA — Helen Maxine Allen, 94, a lifelong resident of Litchfield, passed away Friday evening, May 13, at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta.
She was born on May 13, 1917, in Litchfield, the daughter of Raymond and Thelma (Buker) Tozier. She attended Litchfield schools, graduating from Litchfield Academy in 1934 as valedictorian of her class.
On June 19, 1937, in New Hampshire, she married her husband of 55 years, Arthur Fernley Allen. Mr. Allen passed away on March 2, 1993.
Helen worked at the Litchfield post office for 45 years, retiring in 1979 as postmaster. She enjoyed deer, duck and partridge hunting, sports, and was an avid Red Sox fan. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Rodney and Lois Allen of Litchfield, and Richard and Carol Allen of Monmouth; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and David Bickford, of Litchfield; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur; her granddaughter, Rhonda Allen; and two sisters, Lyndall Heald and Dorothy Fuller.
