RANGELEY — The Fire Department helped rescue a couple Tuesday afternoon from Saddleback Lake in Dallas Plantation, fire Chief Rudy Davis said.

An unidentified man and woman were fishing when the man went to cast his line, lost his balance and tipped the canoe, Davis said.

Someone at the lake lodge saw the couple in the water and called the department about 3:30 p.m., he said. They were out a ways toward the west shore.

When Davis arrived, the couple were still in the water but department rescuers had a canoe in the water guiding them back to shore, he said. The lake was calm and water temperatures low.

They were cold and wet but no one was injured, he said. A NorthStar ambulance crew took them to a local camp to start warming up and for any treatment needed.

Davis said he did not speak with the couple and did not know their names.
