MADISON — A report by the Maine Department of Corrections says the staff at the Somerset County Jail followed correct procedures in its handling of the death of an inmate.

Sixty-one-year-old Richard Bruce Greco of Dixfield was serving a 90-day sentence at the Madison jail for his involvement in a 2009 fatal crash in Wilton on March 19 when he died in his cell of a brain aneurysm.

The Department of Corrections investigated allegations another inmate made about the jail staff’s response to Greco’s death. The report, which didn’t detail the allegations, reviewed Greco’s medical records and security videos of the staff and paramedics’ response. It found no problems.

Sheriff Barry DeLong tells the Morning Sentinel his staff is well prepared.
