FARMINGTON — A former police officer pleaded not guilty Friday to sexually molesting a Franklin County girl under age 12 for nearly four years.
Justice Michaela Murphy ordered Steven R. Goozey not to have any contact with anyone age 16 or under unless supervised.
Goozey, 39, of Coplin Plantation, now living in southern Maine, pleaded not guilty to 10 felony charges of unlawful sexual contact in Franklin County Superior Court. He was indicted on the charges on May 12.
Goozey is accused of sexually molesting the girl between June 13, 2006, and May 30, 2010.
He had worked as a police officer for Carrabassett Valley Police Department for three months in the fall of 2010 before being let go on unrelated circumstances, police Chief Scott Nichols said previously.
Franklin County Sheriff Detective David St. Laurent arrested Goozey on March 24 on one count of felony unlawful sexual contact. He was released from jail on $1,000 cash bail on March 25.
Goozey’s attorney, Woody Hanstein, requested Friday that his client’s bail be amended to allow him to have contact with his 5-month-old daughter. Goozey and the child’s mother live about three hours apart, Hanstein said.
Assistant District Andrew Robinson objected.
The baby’s mother said that she wanted Goozey to have contact with his daughter every other weekend and she would supervise the visits.
