LIVERMORE FALLS — Friday’s History Night and Cruise-In is promising to pique nostalgia with a stroll down memory lane as people browse through the history of sports in the tri-town area.

There will be other historic displays, vehicles from the past, antique tractors, fun and games for children, and more.

The event will run from 4 to 8 p.m. May 27 in downtown Livermore Falls.

“The theme for this year’s Livermore Falls History Night and Cruise-In will be the history of sports in the Livermore Falls, Livermore and Jay area,” organizer Ken Jacques said. “With the recent joining of the two school systems, the Livermore Falls Downtown Betterment Group thought this would be an excellent choice to have on display this year.”

Jay and RSU 36 schools are consolidating on July 1. In fact, the last varsity game to be played between the two high schools begins the same day at 4 p.m. Friday at Livermore Falls athletic fields. Baseball and softball games are scheduled.

Next year, student athletes in the new school system will play as members of the Spruce Mountain (high or middle school) Phoenix.

The Betterment Group plans to have many photos, uniforms, trophies, yearbooks and other mementos from the past on display at the Knowlton Block on Main Street and the Lamb Block on Depot Street, Jacques said.

“We encourage people to dig out their scrapbooks and bring them along to share with others during the evening,” he said..

Organizers are adding a children’s area this year where sack races, face painting, chalk art and sundaes are for sale at Geneva Hodgkins Memorial Park on the corner of Main and Union streets.

There will be an antique tractor display and rides by Jason Gibbs, Warren Small and friends.

Antique autos, trucks and motorcycles will be parked along the streets for visitors to look at.

Livermore/Livermore Falls Historical Society and the Washburn-Norlands Living History Center will also have displays set up.

The food — there is plenty of it planned — will include french fries, burgers, popcorn and more.

There will be vendors of all kinds, Jacques said.

Live music and dancing featuring Crash Road, the Band; Barry Wood; Potpourri; and the Moose Creek Cloggers will go on.

The Paper and Heritage Museum will also have several new exhibits on display at the museum on Church Street, including one of Ellis Island in New York.

Transportation to and from will be provided on antique tractor rides through town, Jacques said.
