LIVERMORE FALLS — The Jay-Livermore Falls Lions Club president, Tia Knapp, was honored and awarded Club President of the Year by the State of Maine District 41. This is an honor bestowed upon club presidents who have demonstrated excellence and innovation in service to their club and community. The award was presented by District Governor Duke Goranites at the Lions Club International District 41 annual convention held at the Grand Summit Hotel and Conference Center at Sunday River Resort, with guests including 1st Vice President Wayne Madden and Wife Lion Linda from Auburn, Ind., and Lions representing the 83 Lions Clubs throughout District 41, the State of Maine.

Lion’s are volunteers and members of the largest volunteer service organization in the world striving to eliminate preventable blindness in our lifetime. Towards this goal, they support diabetes awareness and prevention, vision screening for glaucoma, macular degeneration and other common vision problems. Lions support community youth and elderly activities.

All money raised by donations and contributions from the public must be directed to the community or the programs listed above. This money is not used to support the club or any Lions. The Jay Livermore Falls Lions Club is selling tickets for a cash raffle. Other ongoing fundraising includes bright blue bottle donation bins at the Jay and Livermore Falls transfer stations and history night from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 27.
