OXFORD — Dove Award-winning singer/songwriter Mitch McVicker returns to Oxford Advent Christian Church for a concert Sunday, May 29, at 6 p.m.

Opening for the Kansas native will be local singer/performer Phil DuBois of Oxford, who has recorded his first CD and will release his second one soon.

“The theme that runs through my music is that the love of God is stronger than anything else we will come up against,” McVicker said on his website. “We human beings are imperfect but God is perfect and He will complete a good work in us one day. With my future performances and albums, I would like to point to Jesus and His love for us. A love that is unwavering, tough and bigger than we are.”

McVicker has recorded a number of CDs since the 1990s and travels extensively around the United States and the world performing.

DuBois is a licensed Advent Christian minister with a bachelor’s degree in theology and Christian music ministries and one in Bible and general arts. He also holds a master’s degree in healthcare administration and is a licensed nursing home administrator.

In 2007, shortly after adopting his son, Jamie, Phil’s family was involved in a car accident while travelling to introduce Jamie to his new family. Phil’s wife, uncle, and cousin died in the accident, while his two aunts, son and he were seriously injured.

While working through his grief in Christian counseling, he recognized that God was calling him to leave his position as a nursing home administrator.

He has formed Second Best Ministries, dedicated to sharing a Christian perspective on grief, redemption of tragedy, foster/adoptive ministries and long-term care culture change.

His first CD is titled “Songs of Deliverance.” His second CD, “Mourning into Dancing,” will soon be released.
