RUMFORD — Mountain Valley High School’s 112 seniors have nearly a week of activities scheduled prior to their graduation at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 2.

School administrators and local police have devoted the past six weeks to educating the students about making choices and the consequences if those choices aren’t good ones, Principal Matt Gilbert said.

The class, which Gilbert said is a tightly knit group that has pulled together throughout their high school career, has had to deal with both high accomplishments, such as state championships, as well as the death of one of their classmates.

“They are an extremely personable class,” Gilbert said. “They have a lot of skills.”

The week of events begins Monday at 6 p.m. when a bonfire and barbecue will take place at the rear of the high school. On Tuesday, the students will be taken to Old Orchard Beach for a day of fun.

On Wednesday, Class Night begins with a 5 p.m. senior banquet, followed by awards and scholarships, student recognitions and the naming of the recipient of the ideal student award.

Brittany Desgrosseilliers, accompanied by pianist Hanson Gorham, and Kymberly Couch, accompanied by pianist Erich Zurhorst, will perform during Class Night.

On graduation night, the Mountain Valley Band will perform, once the seniors march into the gymnasium. Class marshals, chosen by the senior class, are juniors Chelsea Bordeau of Rumford and Izaak Mills of Andover.

Gilbert said a few additional seniors may meet graduation requirements by graduation day, and another 10 or so have a chance to finish up on the requirements by attending summer school.

Following the graduation ceremony, the class will be taken to the YMCA in Waterville as part of Project Graduation.
