LEWISTON — United Ambulance bats came alive early and often in the first game of a double header on Sunday afternoon, as they handed Elite Auto a loss for the second time this season, 8-6, in Elliot Ave. Little League major divisioon baseball.

Elite starter Brock Belanger was nicked for three runs in the top of the first on a Jean-Luc Dostie single and a Grant Hartley triple. Jess Lopez tripled and scored in the second to make the score 4-0. Elite made it a seven-run lead with three more runs in its half of the third.

Dostie held Elite hitless until there was one out in the fourth, before giving up a double to Belanger. Cold weather and a sore arm caused Dostie to exit early. He was relieved by Isaac Escobar, who gave up a couple walks early. Trevor Trudelle added an RBI single for Elite to close the gap to 7-4.

Escobar then settled in, striking out the side in the bottom of the fifth.

United added a late run in the fifth off reliever Gage Cote. In a late comeback bid, Elite plated two runs off Escobar thanks to an error, a walk, and an RBI single by Jared Rubin. But Escobar slammed the door on Elite with a strikeout to end the threat and the game.

Dostie got the win for United, striking out eight. Belanger took the loss for Elite. Dostie, Hartley and Lopez were repeat hitters for United.

United raised its record to 3-2. Elite fell to 4-3. Elite edged Skelton, Taintor & Abbott 2-1 in an earlier contest on Sunday.

Anthoine Financial Group continued to roll in Elliot Ave. majors, posting a 9-6 victory over United.

Kaleb Morrisette pitched a gem of a game for 3 2/3 innings, holding United to one run on three hits. United couldn’t take full advantage of hits by Tommy Turgeon, Grant Hartley and Jean-Luc Dostie (a double), stranding seven baserunners over the first four frames.

Meanwhile, three errors by United coupled with doubles by Mitchell Frisbee and Hayden Dumont led to six runs (two earned) off starter Grant Hartley.

Hartley got even at the plate in the top of the fifth inning, powering a grand slam deep to left center off reliever Frisbee, cutting the deficit to 6-5. The rally was short-lived as United’s defense failed to support reliever Damien St.Pierre as well.

AFG scored three in its half of the fifth (only one earned), aided by an RBI single by Dumont, to open the lead to 9-5. United later added a solo tally in the sixth on hits by Elias Atkins and Jess Lopez. Anthoine climbed to 5-1 in Elliot Majors play, dropping United to the .500 mark through six games.

Dillingham and Son’s outlasted ENEFCO, 8-4, in an Auburn Suburban Little League minor division baseball game that featured timely hitting and great defensive plays.

Cooper Watkins and Gunner Winslow led the Dillingham bats. Defensively, George Romano made several highlight-reel plays at third base that denied ENEFCO more than a few runs.

ENEFCO had several key contributors offensively including Mike Potvin, Chase Martin and Dante Garcia. Defensive standouts for ENEFCO included R.J. Nichols, Matthew Scholer and Konnor Simpson.

Willis exploded past East Auburn, 15-1, in an ASLL major division baseball game. Race Bouchard and Nick Hathaway each had three hits and Caleb Hebert added two, including a home run. Giles Paradie and Timmy Torres had hits for East Auburn.

In another ASLL clash, Hardy, Wolf and Downing scored its second win of the season, defeating Auburn Fire Fighters, 8-2.

HWD had a great defensive day with Aaron Fanjoy leading the way at short. Jacob Dubuc pitched a complete game by keep AFF off balance. Caleb Yarnevich, Kyle Harold, Austin Cox and Tyler Blanchard pitched for AFF.

Apple Valley Babe Ruth

LEEDS — Winthrop swept a doubleheader from Leeds, 10-3 and 4-3, to start the Apple Valley Babe Ruth baseball season.

Jared Hanson was the winning pitcher in the opener. Drew Stratton doubled for Winthrop. Zach Glazier belted a triple and a single. Zack Steele slapped two singles. Nate Rousseau smacked a double for Leeds. Quentin Damon and Josh Bunker each added a single.

Ben Allen scored the win in a close nightcap, helping his own cause with a double. Steele and Adam Hachey both singled. Brandon Morrissette delivered a double and a single for Leeds. Nate Rousseau tripled, and Cody Dennison singled.
