LEWISTON — The General George Armstrong Custer Post #7 Grand Army of the Republic Association will hold Decoration Day ceremonies at 10 a.m. Monday, May 30, at the gravesite of Stephen L.T. Marriner located at the Riverside Cemetery, Summer Street.

Private Marriner died as a prisoner of war on Dec. 1, 1864, in the Confederate Prison, Salisbury, S.C. His tombstone is located in the “Old Soldiers Field” section of Riverside Cemetery.

The program includes the “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” invocation by Rev. Douglas Taylor, Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address by Ronald Arneault, General Logan’s Original Order #11 by Larry Mayes, recitation of the poem “Soldiers” by Lorna Jollymore, history of Custer Post #7 by Jerry DerBoghosian, history of Maine’s participation in the Civil War by Larry Mayes, reading of the names of Custer Post #7 buried in Soldier’s Field by Margaret Sjostrom and “God Bless America.”

The ceremonies are open to the public and will be held rain or shine.
