PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — The Senate Judiciary Committee has given its approval to the first woman nominated for a federal judgeship in Maine.

The committee on Thursday voted in favor of Nancy Torresen’s nomination to serve on the U.S. District Court for Maine. Her nomination will next be voted on by the full Senate.

Torresen is an assistant U.S. attorney and a former state assistant attorney general. Her husband, Jay McCloskey, was once the U.S. attorney in Maine.
