FARMINGTON — Three drivers suffered minor injuries Thursday afternoon when an 18-wheeler struck a stopped vehicle and it spun into a third one on Wilton Road, Farmington police officer Kim Bates said.

Cory Boyker, 24, of Farmington, was traveling east toward Farmington at around 4 p.m. when he stopped to make a left turn into the Sun Journal/Franklin Journal office at 187 Wilton Road, Bates said.

The 18-wheeler driven by Jamie Johnson, 43, of Wilton came up over the hill in the same lane as Boyker’s vehicle. Johnson didn’t see Boyker’s Honda, Bates said, hit the brakes and ran into the back of it.

The Honda spun and struck an SUV driven by Gale McDonald, 51, of Wilton  in the opposite lane, Bates said.

A witness who was walking on the sidewalk said Boyker was stopped for a few minutes waiting to make a left turn and had his turn signal on.

The truck driver told police Boyker didn’t have a turn signal on, Bates said.

After striking Boyker’s car, the truck veered into a guardrail on the right. 

Boyker complained of pain to his neck and head and went to the hospital but not by ambulance, she said. Boyker was treated and released, according to a hospital representative.

McDonald also complained of neck problems and also went to the hospital. She was not transported by NorthStar either. McDonald was still being evaluated at 6:30 p.m., according to the Franklin Memorial Hospital representative.

Johnson complained of shoulder and chest pain but did not seek treatment.

After backing the truck away from the guardrail, parts were removed so that he could drive the vehicle off to allow the backed-up traffic to resume moving. He estimated there was more than $5,000 damage to the truck, Bates said. It is owned by Korhonen Logging of Livermore.

Boyker’s vehicle was damaged beyond repair and McDonald’s received minimal damage, she said. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Farmington Fire and Rescue and NorthStar ambulance were at the scene.
