At 11 p.m. EDT May 25, the TV networks closed the book on the 2010-11 season. But before we drift too far into summer mode, let’s take a look back at some of the cliffhangers, game-changers and nail-biters of this season’s finales. Beware, if you haven’t yet seen these episodes: Spoilers will follow.

* “The Mentalist,” CBS

In a word: Alarming

What happened: Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) gunned down “Red John,” the serial killer who murdered his wife and daughter, in a crowded mall food court.

What now: Questions, questions. Was that really Red John? Will Jane be satisfied by finally getting revenge? And how can he get away with murder?

* “Castle,” ABC

In a word: Shocking

What happened: Capt. Montgomery admitted he bore responsibility for Beckett’s mother’s death, then was killed in a gun battle. At his funeral, Beckett (Stana Katic) was shot by an unseen sniper and “died” as Castle (Nathan Fillion) declared, “I love you.”

What now: Odds are she’s not dead, since she’s the star of the show and also because a live Beckett who might (or might not) have heard Castle’s declaration of love is way more interesting than a dead one.

* “Bones,” Fox

In a word: Sweet

What happened: After Angela and Hodgins had their baby (a boy, who wasn’t blind), Brennan (Emily Deschanel) told Booth (David Boreanaz) that she was pregnant after their night together. He seemed thrilled.

What now: The friends and partners now have to figure out their new relationship, while the writers have to figure out what can replace the will-they-or-won’t-they sexual tension that fans love.

* “The Good Wife,” CBS

In a word: Satisfying

What happened: After winning a trial that involved a bloody glove, Alicia and Will (Julianna Margulies and Josh Charles) celebrated with a steamy elevator ride to a luxury hotel suite — and it was Alicia who made the key fit in the door.

What now: After learning that best friend Kalinda (Archie Panjabi) had slept with husband Peter (Chris Noth), Alicia put an end to attempts to save her marriage. But where does that leave all the players in this deliciously complex drama?

* “Chuck,” NBC

In a word: Fitting

What happened: Chuck (Zachary Levi) grew up into full-fledged spyhood as he demanded and got an antidote to save Sarah in time for their wedding. He also passed the Intersect to Morgan.

What now: Chuck and his team, now out on their own as spies, will have 13 episodes next season, the show’s last, to make it work, and possibly to take down the evil Decker (Richard Burgi).

* “House,” Fox

In a word: Predictable

What happened: Still trying and failing to quit Vicodin, and after rebuffing Cuddy’s attempt to reconcile, House (Hugh Laurie) drove his car into the side of her house and fled, apparently to the tropics.

What now: Lisa Edelstein, who plays Cuddy, won’t return to the show next season, so someone else (long-suffering pal Wilson?) will now be responsible for trying to redeem House.

* “Grey’s Anatomy,” ABC

In a word: Soapy

What happened: After Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) was exposed for tampering with the Alzheimer’s study and suspended, Derek (Patrick Dempsey) wasn’t sure he could forgive her. Then they got the baby they want to adopt. Cristina (Sandra Oh) learned she’s pregnant.

What now: Mer and Der need to put their marriage back together or risk losing their new daughter, while Cristina has to decide whether she really wants an abortion.

* “Hawaii Five-0,” CBS

In a word: Explosive

What happened: McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) held the governor (Jean Smart) at gunpoint, demanding that she confess her involvement in his mother’s murder. Wo Fat killed the governor and framed McGarrett, who wound up in jail.

What now: With Kono under arrest for theft and Danny considering leaving to be with his ex-wife, who’s having his baby, it looks as if the Five-0 team is history. But is it?
