AUBURN — Two students in the culinary arts program at Central Maine Community College, Jonathan Kramer of Oxford and Cassandra Hallett of Manchester, were awarded the 2011 Joe Graziano Scholarships at a banquet held this spring at the college.

More than 50 family members and friends attended the event which included a five-course dinner planned and prepared by the culinary students. The special guest speaker was Tom Jannarone, who shared some memories about the fascinating life of Joe Graziano, who owned and operated Graziano’s Restaurant in Lisbon for many years before his death in 2000. Jannarone noted how the scholarships, which have been presented to culinary students at CMCC for more than five years, are an important way of preserving Graziano’s legacy of “love through food.”

The Culinary Arts program at CMCC is a one-year certificate program designed to prepare students for employment in a variety of positions in the food service industry. Students may also elect to earn an associate degree in business administration with a concentration in hospitality management. Anyone interested in this program is encouraged to contact the admissions office at 755-5273.
