BETHEL — Larry Smith has announced he is running for the Board of Selectmen.
Smith, a Vietnam veteran, said in a prepared statement he was running to represent the “silent majority.”
Bethel elections are set for June 14.
“If elected, my first obligation would be to listen to the silent majority, the people that can not make it to the (selectmen’s) meeting,” Smith said. “I will be listening to the voters and following through.”
Smith said he would like to see Route 5 become more pedestrian friendly by having the town put up more street lights and install more sidewalks on the highway.
In his release, Smith states he was the first Vietnam veteran to be elected to the local American Legion post.
