AUBURN — Patriotism will be the theme for Wednesday, July 6, at Festival Plaza. One hour prior to the evening’s weekly performance by the Auburn Community Concert Band, well-known Auburn historian and living-history performer, Charles W. Plummer, will make an appearance as Alexander Hamilton. Starting at 6 p.m. in front of the band shell, Plummer will present a free talk on the events that led to the Continental Congress declaring independence from England in 1776.

Also participating at the Main Street Plaza throughout the evening are Elaine Greene, JoAnn Miller and Carmen Footer, better known as the Freeport Flag Ladies. The Flag Ladies have earned nationwide recognition for standing with their flags on Main Street in Freeport every Tuesday morning without fail since Sept. 11, 2001. In addition, the three women routinely travel to Bangor to meet outgoing military flights, send packages to troops overseas and help raise money for veteran’s groups and the Wounded Warriors Foundation.

Starting at 7 p.m., the Auburn Community Concert Band will present an “Evening of Patriotic Music,” the fourth of its 11-week concert series. The free 75-minute program will feature well-known patriotic songs and spirited marches, including a salute to each branch of the Armed Forces. In case of inclement weather, all activities will take place inside the ballroom at the Hilton Garden Inn at Great Falls Plaza.
