AUBURN — Clara Karoline (Mittelbachert) Foster, 95, died peacefully following a long and healthy life on June 29.
She was born July 14, 1915, to Otto C.E. and Olga H.L. (Tessensohn) Mittelbachert in Brooklyn, N.Y. She moved with her family to Litchfield in 1928. Clara was a graduate of Litchfield Academy in 1932, and began her nursing degree at the Central Maine General Hospital in 1933, graduating as a Registered Nurse a few years later.
She married David A. Foster in 1939. He passed away in 1965. They lived in Lewiston until moving back to the family farm in Litchfield in 1956. Clara had a long and proud career as a nurse, primarily at St. Mary’s Hospital retiring in 1976.
She was a founding member and president of the Litchfield Senior Citizens Club for 33 years since 1978. She was also an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Mystic Chapter No. 60 for 77 years. She lived a deliberate life that prioritized being around her close-knit family and friends.
She is survived by her sons, Ronald D. Foster and his wife, Constance, of Litchfield, and Port Charlotte, Fla., and Richard O. Foster and his wife, Brenda, of Litchfield, and Port Charlotte, Fla.; her granddaughters, Diane L. Foster of Durham N.H., Kimberly A. Foster of Windham, Kristina F. (Foster) Dean of Scarborough, Amy F. (Foster) Boucher of Scarborough and their families; nine great-grandchildren; and two nephews and one niece of southern California.
She was predeceased by her husband, David; and her sister, Olga.
