WEST GARDINER — Louise Burr Casey had a beautiful smile and an engaging personality. She was the definition of a lady with great strength of character. Louise lived a long and happy life. She died peacefully on June 25, at the age of 93, in West Gardiner, at the home of her daughter.
Louise was born and raised in Eastport, Jan. 7, 1918, the daughter of Roy A. and Elizabeth Hasty Burr. She had three sisters, Pauline Bartlett, Margaret Calder and Alice Jordan, and one brother, Robert Burr, all deceased.
Louise graduated from Shead Memorial High School as the Salutatorian, attended the University of Maine and graduated from Maine School of Commerce. She was the beloved wife of the late Michael A. Casey, with whom she shared 49 devoted years.
They resided in Lewiston, where they raised their family and made life-long friends. She and her husband took great pleasure in traveling in their early retirement years.
Louise was an administrative secretary for the Auburn School system for 18 years. She also worked as a team leader for the U.S. Census. She was involved in various activities including the PTA and Brownie Scouts. Louise was an accomplished seamstress, loved to cook, knit, read and garden. Her greatest joy was caring for all her family and keeping everyone connected. She was very close to her nieces and nephews and cherished her many dear friends, young and old.
Louise is survived by her daughters, Catherine Jalbert of Swampscott, Mass., Margaret Peacock and her husband, Gregory, of West Gardiner and Sheila Cummings and her husband, Willard, of Thomaston, Conn.; she will be missed by her grandchildren, Michael Jalbert and his wife, Amy, Suzanne McCormick and her husband, John, Julie Pitt and her husband, Stephen, Amy Mendall and her husband, Peter, Scott Peacock and his wife, Julie, Casey Peacock and his wife, Kristin, Jane Cummings and Charity Cummings; she was loved by 11 great-grandchildren, Ryan and Benjamin McCormick, Matthew Jalbert, J’rae, Calen, Sahja and Tate Mendall, Logan and Emily Peacock and Elsie Peacock and Campbell Pitt.
Louise was predeceased by her husband, Michael in 1992; her son-in-law, Robert Jalbert in 2001; and her granddaughter, Melissa Cummings Sullivan in 1998.
