PARIS — The winner of the first Oxford County Soil & Water Conservation District Photo Contest is Jeffrey Chase of Bryant Pond with his photo titled “Tom’s Mowing Machine.” The photo was chosen for frst place by an overwhelming vote of the judges. When asked where the photo was taken, Chase told folks it was taken in Lower Cupsuptic, but not to look for it because it’s no longer there. He took the photo approximately 14 years ago with “just a regular old camera.” Chase received a prize package which included a birdfeeder and a 50-pound bag of Meaties from Paris Farmers Union, a gardening package from Aubuchon Hardware in Norway, a gift certificate to Rosebeck Farm in South Paris, a gift certificate to Tractor Supply in Oxford and maple syrup from Colebrook Farm in South Paris.

The honorable mention photos were as follows: “East Bethel” by Cherrie L. Crockett, “Pinecones” by Sandra Geddrey and “Make Hay When the Sun Shines” by Bob Webster. All of the photographers were invited to the annual meeting to receive recognition for their work and all photos were framed and hung in the new Oxford County Soil & Water Conservation building, 17 Olson Road, South Paris. The district would like to remind everyone that the contest will be run again each year, so keep your eye out for photo opportunities.
