AARP meeting

PARIS — The Oxford Hills Chapter of AARP will meet on Monday, July 11, at the First Congregational Church on E. Main Street, South Paris. There will be a chicken salad lunch and a special 4th of July dessert served at noon. The cost is $6.50 and reservations are required by calling Ruth at 744-9069 by noon on Friday, July 8.

The meeting will begin at 1 and will be followed by Julie Daye presenting her art of pine needle weaving.

Varied concert

GORHAM, N.H. — A concert by Four Shillings Short will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at Chapel Arts New England, 13 Glen Road. $10 cover, free for kids.

With an ever-increasing array of instruments (more than 20 at last count), including hammered dulcimer, mandola and mandolin, tinwhistle and woodwinds, sitar, banjo, percussion and vocals, their music is always varied and captivating.

In a single night, Four Shillings Short perform traditional Irish tunes and airs, Indian ragas, folk ballads, old-time songs, medieval and renaissance instrumentals and a cappella numbers as well as contemporary folk and original compositions.

Outdoors Sunday School

WEST PARIS — West Paris Baptist Church will hold its second annual Great Outdoor Sunday School event at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, July 10, at the West Paris ballfields.

There will be games, cookout and an inspirational message. All are welcome.

WATERFORD — The Waterford Library is offering a weekly story time program Mondays at 1 p.m. beginning July 11 and continuing through August. It will be particularly appropriate for kids age two to six.

Socrates Cafe

WATERFORD — A Socrates Cafe gathering will be held at the Waterford Library from6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, July 11. The group offers a forum to discuss current topics and ideas in a warm, friendly atmosphere, where divergent views will be welcome.

The topic for the July meeting is, “Does Wikileaks Play A Constructive Role In Society?” The facilitator will be Jim Kearney.

Due to the Fourth of July holiday, the meeting in July is postponed from the regular practice of meeting on the first Monday of each month.
