Benefit Bash
AUBURN — The second annual Benefit Bash at Lost Valley will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 10, to benefit the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing. The event will feature mechanical bull rides, a cash bar, a silent auction and an outdoor BBQ. Five live bands will play. Tickets are $10 each. Ticket sales go directly to the Dempsey Challenge. Intimacy workshop
RUMFORD — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing and Rumford Hospital have partnered to offer a free intimacy workshop for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. “Intimacy After Cancer” will take place from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Thursday, July 14, in Classroom C at Rumford Hospital.
Presenter Emily Ecker, oncology outreach social worker, will explore self-esteem and intimacy issues that may arise during and/or after treatment and find ways to affirm each other despite these changes. The workshop is developed by the American Cancer Society as part of the I CAN COPE series.

Nutrition workshop
LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center is offering a free nutrition workshop for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. “Immune Boosting Foods” will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 14, at CMMC, 12 High St., Conference Room I.
Eighty percent of the immune system is in the gastrointestinal tract, so good digestion is essential. Discussion will include foods that support digestion along with immune boosting and harming foods. There will be a special focus on seaweed, the most nutrient-dense plant on the planet. Demonstrations include sushi making and seaweed salad.
Presented by Kendall Scott, a three-year cancer survivor and holistic health coach. After her cancer diagnosis, Scott began making changes in her diet and attained certification in health counseling from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York. She now empowers and educates women in food and lifestyle choices. Her mission is to help you find freedom in clean, whole food and life, simply and naturally.

Summer festival
SABATTUS — The town of Sabattus is holding its 5th annual Sabattus Summer Festival from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 14, at Town Hall. Rain or shine.
Residents are invited to enjoy a free barbecue, games and climb aboard the town’s firetrucks. Residents should bring a picnic blanket, chairs and a big appetite. Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult.
Open mic
AUBURN — Teen singers, musicians, comics and spoken-word poets are invited to the next teen open mic night from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 15, at the Auburn Public Library. Performers sign up at 5:30 p.m. Special guests will be Mary Wooten, 18, who will be entering Rhode Island College in Providence in the fall, and John Barbosa, 19, who attends University of Southern Maine in Gorham. Music benefit
NEW GLOUCESTER — The Sabbathday Lake Association will present a night of music beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, July 15, at the Sabbathday Lake Grange Hall, Sabbathday Road, to benefit conservation projects on Sabbathday Lake. The night will feature the Bald Hill Boys who will bring their mixture of acoustic bluegrass, folk and rock music. Their special guest will be Dawson Hill, a professional pianist who has played throughout New England.
The night will also feature a 50/50 drawing, raffle and door prizes.
