NEW SHARON — Police charged a local man with firing a shotgun too close to a Main Street residence Saturday.

Timothy Danforth, 19, of New Sharon was issued a summons on a misdemeanor charge of discharging of a firearm near a dwelling, Franklin County Lt. Niles Yeaton said.

Danforth was trying out a .410-caliber shotgun in back of an apartment building, shooting at a cardboard box target, Yeaton said.

The apartment building abuts the Sandy River and there was a person on the other side of the river, he said.

There was no intent to harm anyone, Yeaton said.

In fact, Danforth said he looked to see if anyone was near the river and didn’t see anyone, he said.

Danforth is scheduled to appear Sept. 22 at Farmington District Court.
