It would be nice if, when driving down a street where there are work crews, people would give a tip of the hat and say hello. Those workmen are doing a thankless, but essential, job if the rest of us are to have water and sewer services.

They have to contend with angry motorists, pedestrians and neighborhood residents.

I live in Lewiston on a corner where a major project is being done. The workmen are on the job at 7 a.m. and often work until 7 p.m. I have observed that there is no time wasted. They work hard all day.

I am an older person in poor health and I needed a piece of heavy furniture moved. Those guys took five minutes from their break time and moved it for me — an unheard of act of kindness these days.

Let these guys know that they are appreciated for what they do to make our lives better.
