LEWISTON — Clairette Fontaine, 88, of Lewiston died unexpectedly on Thursday, July 7, at Central Maine Medical Center.
She was born in St. George de Beauce, Quebec, Canada, May 4, 1923, the daughter of Wilfred and Yvonne (Paquette) Bolduc.
She arrived in Lewiston on Aug. 9, 1946, at age 23, and she became a U.S. citizen on Jan. 5, 1950. She was married to Albert Fontaine for 13 years. Prior to her retirement, she worked for more than 38 years at the Bates Mill as a spinner.
She was a member of the Lewiston Senior Citizens, Horizon 55 and Covenant 50 and the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul Parish.
She loved gardening, crafts and taking daily walks. She remained active and independent throughout her long life.
She is survived by her daughter, Joline Fontaine Labbe and her husband, Paul, and their two sons, Jason and Brian Labbe, all of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; three brothers, Leandre, Ronaldo and Emilien Bolduc, all of St. George, Canada; two sisters, Patricia Bolduc Gilbert and Jeannine Bolduc Poulin, both of St. George, Canada.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Nina Fontaine Carreau; and a brother, Noel Bolduc.
