100 years ago, 1911

A large number of youngsters enjoy swimming in the river near the North Bridge every evening and sometimes during the afternoon. A spring board has been constructed under the bridge and a large crowd of people on the bridge watch the youngsters at their pranks every evening.

50 years ago, 1961

Auburn Recreation and Parks Director Harry G. Coulter Jr. said yesterday his department will sponsor a record hop for teenagers on Thursday night.

Coulter said the dance is scheduled to be held at Pulsifer Playground and will start at 7:30 p.m. and continue until 10 p.m.

25 years ago, 1986

An annual junior tennis tourney open to state players has been scheduled for Lewiston courts Saturday, according to local tennis program director Ron Chicoine. The one-day event will operate at LHS, Marcotte, Holy Family and Holy Cross courts, starting at 9 a.m.

As of Thursday evening, 54 players had entered, it was reported, among them a group of 15 from Augusta. Lewiston and Auburn youngsters fill out a large portion of the fields, broken down into three classes of 16 and under, 14 and under and 12 and under in separate boys and girls categories.
