GREENE — Albert R. Mason, 63, a resident of Line Road, Greene, died unexpectedly, Monday, July 11, at his home.

He was born Sept. 30, 1947, in Bethel, the son of Alfred C. and Bernice L. (Tibbetts) Mason. Albert attended school in Greene and was a graduate of Lewiston High School. He served three years in the U.S. Army, having served in Vietnam, in the 1st Calvary Division (Air Mobile) assigned to the 229th Assault Helicopter Battalion (Winged Assault) and 21 years in the U.S. Army Reserves since 1974 in the 619th Transportation Company, in the 3rd platoon, 3rd squad – squad leader, having served in Desert Shield/Desert Storm, retiring in 1991.

On Oct. 5, 1968, in Locke Mills, he married Kathleen Bachelder. Albert worked as a shipfitter for 27 years at Bath Iron Works. Albert was a dedicated lifetime soldier and Naval ship builder, he was very proud of his country and his patriotism.

He was an avid outdoorsman and in his younger years he spent a lot of time in the woods and learned the logging trade from his brothers. He was a history buff, especially reading and learning about the American Civil War.

Albert was very proud of his grandchildren, he enjoyed saving quarters of all the states for them. He also, collected currency from all the countries he visited and served. Albert was loving and devoted to his family and friends. He would without hesitation help people when they needed a hand without being asked. He would give them the shirt off his back if they needed it and never expected anything in return.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Mason of Greene; his son, Daniel Mason and companion, Vicki Richard; daughters, Jennifer Mason and Julie Mason and companion, Jerry Burgess; grandchildren, Gabbie, Ariel, Nate, Gwen and Anna; three brothers, identical twin brother, Delbert Mason Sr. and wife, Marilyn and Gary Mason, all of Greene and Ernest Mason and wife, Anita, of Bethel; four sisters, Shirley and Joe Bitetti of Greene, Eleanor Flanders of Norway Virginia Curtis of Leeds and Patricia and Dennis Green of Greene; brother-in-law, Charles Wadja of New Hampshire; many nieces and nephews; and his faithful dog and companion, Sadie.

He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Mason; his sister, Janet Wadja; and brothers-in-law, Robert Curtis and Ken Flanders.
