ANDOVER — It’s all about having fun on the trail while supporting some great River Valley charities.
The fifth annual Christmas in July ATV Toy Run kicks off at 10 a.m. Saturday from Grimaldi Field.
The Toy Run is a 25-mile ATV ride that takes about two and a half hours, said Mike Worthley, president of the Roxbury ATV Riders, sponsors of Saturday’s ride.
“We go at a nice leisurely pace, one which everyone can easily maintain, over some beautiful trails in Andover and Roxbury,” Worthley said.
The ride benefits several local charities, including Santa’s Helpers of Rumford/Mexico, Christmas for Families in Bethel, The Andover Food Pantry, Christmas in Andover, Roxbury and Byron and Families in Crisis of Oxford County, Worthley said.
Each Toy Run rider is expected to bring an unwrapped toy in a plastic bag and/or a cash donation.
Other Toy Run events include a raffle, a barbecue lunch and gift certificates to participants under the age of 17.
“Last year we raised over $4,000 in cash and toy donations,” Worthley said, “and we are hoping to do better this year.”
“I anticipate we’ll have between 100 and 150 participants this year,” he said.
“I just heard members of the Mexico Police Department will be taking part in the event, as well as a Maine forest warden,” he said.
“I’ve been impressed with the support we’re getting from residents and businesses of the area for the Toy Run.” Worthley said.
